1. brush the hair. using a comb section the front section of hair in to individual sections, from the ears to the front of the head.
2. section the remaining middle bit of hair in to 5 sections
3. take the outside section over the adjacent one and then under the next section.
4. repeat the same movement on the opposite side
5. repeat this process down the length of the hair until complete and secure with a clear elastic.
8 strand braid & 11 strand braid
1. Leave the 5 strand plait as it is for the moment.
2. taking your two outside sections of either side of the head. plait these in a traditional 3 strand plait, but each time you cross the inside strand over, loop it around the outside of the 5 strand plait
3. do the same on each side and secure with an elastic.
Waterfall plait
1. Part the hair down the centre of the head
2. Starting at the front of the parting, Begin to plait traditionally with three strands.
3. after the first row, let the third section hang loose
4. pick up a new section from the loose hair and plait again
5. Repeat the last two steps until satisfied with the length
Ladder plait
1. Starting off below the original waterfall braid, start a new plait in the same manner
2. At regular intervals add the dropped strand of hair from the waterfall plait in to your braiding
